Upgrades 24. Long Nose Showercap
Having now completed a long journey and leaving the car in the city overnight, I decided that the full hood was just a real faff. I'd heard the best combination was the half hood with the shower cap, but of course there is a lot of chat about the pros and cons of this on Blatchat.
It is hard to know the best solution for you until you actually get used to driving your Caterham. I'd already invested in the half hood, which is not only so quick to put up, but also quite cosy when in use and the cabin stays warm in the winter. Unfortunately I still had to use the full hood to make the car water tight when parked, which took an age to erect and was just not fun. So I decided the shower cap was the next step for me.
I ordered the long nose showercap from softbits, it is made to order, so it took 8 weeks to arrive. Once it arrived I unpacked it and gave it a quick test run. It took about 30seconds to cover the car up and it fits perfectly. I now use this whenever I park the car up outside for long periods of time (or overnight) so as to avoid prying eyes in the cabin.
I now roll up the showercap and the half hood, and store them in the full hood bag on top of the boot, this way I get to use the full storage space in the boot still, and they are easily accessible when i need them.
